Understanding Glove Lengths:
What "Button Length" Really Means
When shopping for formal gloves, you’ll notice labels like 2-button, 12-button, or etc. Despite the name, button length refers to length measurement, not decoration, with each "button" representing about one inch above the wrist.
A 16-button glove, for example, gracefully extends 16 inches up the arm. This timeless system has long been used to define the elegance of formal and evening gloves. See a helpful cheatsheet below.
Tip: Each "button" = about 1 inch of length above the wrist.
A note about actual buttons:
While the term "button length" refers only to the measurement, there are some gloves (particularly traditional mousquetaire styles) that feature three real buttons at the wrist to allow the glove to be opened and slipped on more easily.
These come in 12 and 16 button options only.
